We've both been to New York before, but never together, so this time around we had a list of our 'must see' places and we went off. You'll find out all the locations we hit, some food recommendations, the nightlife and as always,... tips, pics and facts!

So here goes,

Departed: Toronto

Distance/Time: 8-10 hours and about 750 km (466 miles)

Arrived: New York

We arrived to our hotel in New Jersey at the Super 8 by Wyndham North Bergen, and were able to check in to our room for 11 am(ish). We took a quick snooze and then we were off.

[we chose New Jersey to save us a bit of money instead of paying twice as much to be in the city]

—> right from our hotel we were able to catch shuttles that went to and from the city every 15 minutes! Only cost $3/person. The shuttle drops you off just near the New York Times building so it’s extremely easy to navigate to and from the drop off/pick up spot. (25-40 minutes depending on traffic)

Start: New York Times

Destination: Time Square

Distance: 10 min (0.5 mi)

Time Square

As I’m sure many of you have seen before, the commercial intersection is filled with hundreds and thousands of tourists daily, and estimated 50 million visitors annually. Tons to see and do including fully costumed characters, people with snakes, and street performers,.. and don't forget, dozens of little sales people trying to sell you fake designer bags, belts and watches.

tons of souvenir shops (Jess loves bobbleheads)

Destination: NYC High Line (public park above the streets)

Running from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street (between 10th and 12th Avenues, the High Line is 2.3 km long). Give yourself around 30 minutes to enjoy this walk, which gives you tons of time to snap some pictures.

Destination: Rockefeller

One of the pricer things that we ended up doing, but if you haven't been and love a good aerial view of the city, this is our favourite one! $38/person and you have a full 360 view of New York! Right beside the building if you have some time to spare there is the FAO Schwarz toy store! Go release your inner child at New Yorks largest toy store! There you will see giant teddies larger than you, people performing magic, and upstairs there is a giant piano that you can play on by jumping on the keys!

Destination: Central Park

Umpire Rock- West Side at 63rd Street just south of the Hecksher Ballfields

Bow Bridge

Bethesda Terrace & Fountain

There are so many incredible places to visit in the park, so we decided to show you our top three! Umpire Rock (amazing background views), Bow Bridge (In all of our favourite movies), and the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain where there are dozens of street performers to keep you entertained!

Destination: Manhattan Bridge

What we decided to do was walk across the Manhattan bridge at sunset! It wasn't very busy but it was very noisy! This is due to the walking path being under the traffic and right beside the subway path. The views none the less were incredible!

We recommend saving anywhere from 30 -60 minutes to walk across this bridge depending on your pace!

Location: John Street Park

Once you get to the opposite side you will be able to stroll around the park on the other side and look at the city! Most importantly if you are looking for those insta spots DUMBO is seen nearly immediately after getting off the bridge.

Destination: DUMBO

DOWN UNDER THE MANHATTAN BRIDGE OVERPASS! It's a one way street so just be mindful of cars coming at you! Such an awesome little stop! We recommend getting there around 8 am, but if you're like us and only save the AM for snoozing and munching some breaky, I assure you, capturing an amazing picture is easy with this as your background! For us New York is known as this busy, coming to life city, so having others in the background added to the fact that "hey, we're in New York".

WHAT TO DO!

- Hire bikes with a day pass along the pier and check out more! In New York you definitely get around faster with bikes compared to cars!

and...

THOSE PEOPLE WITH BIKE AND BUGGYS

This tip may save you big bucks when inquiring about one of these bike riding buggy people! On the sides of their cart, there will be a ridiculous sign saying something like $5 a minute, or the most we saw was $12 a minute! Do not fall for a sucker move, be confident and ask for a flat-rate that you are comfortable with. AND,... if the first person says no, trust me the others of the pack will be eager to take you for that price!

SAD STORY: The guy that took us for the ride (very nice guy), was saying how there are some tourists that get suckered into a $500 tab by the end of their trip,... do not be those people!!

STAY TUNED!

For more on where to dine, and the nightlife... (coming soon)
